Paul joined the Buckeyes in the summer of 2023 as an Associate Sport Scientist working with all 36 varsity teams to build a comprehensive and integrated sport science support system with the aim of building Ohio State Sport Science into a global leader in human performance. Prior to joining the Buckeyes Paul was the first full-time Sport Science Coordinator for the University of Louisville and played a key role in developing the sport science department for the Cardinals. In addition to managing all administrative duties for the sport science department at Louisville Paul also oversaw the collection, interpretation, and reporting of data gathered from wearable technology during matches and training sessions. As a leader in the field of wearable technology Paul has published peer-reviewed research for Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Lacrosse, and Women’s Basketball and has published work more holistically on the topic of building comprehensive integrated sport science support systems in the collegiate athletics environment. Additionally, Paul worked with industry leaders to produce products that helped to enhance performance for teams at the University of Louisville. As an example, in 2017 Paul oversaw a partnership between the University of Louisville and IBM to create a predictive injury model based on historical data from the Louisville Women’s Basketball team. The model showed an overall 93% accuracy rate in athlete readiness. The project’s findings have been presented at national and international IBM Analytics conferences.
